Frequently Asked Questions

The Juice Box School is a unique blend of a licensed childcare center and a microschool.
Our younger program operates as a licensed childcare center, while our overall approach reflects a microschool model, offering small group sizes, individualized learning, and a more flexible, child-centered experience. We are not a homeschool program, and we intentionally differ from traditional school settings.
-
At The Juice Box School, learning is not standardized or one-size-fits-all.
We prioritize:
Child-led, hands-on learning
Small class sizes and strong relationships
Social-emotional development alongside academics
Creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking
Our goal is not just academic success, but the development of confident, compassionate, and engaged learners.
-
Absolutely! We are committed to creating a space where every child and family feels seen, respected, and valued. We welcome families of all backgrounds, identities, beliefs, and family structures.
-
We use Origins Curriculum, a research based mixed age curriculum that integrates academic learning, emotional intelligence, ethical awareness, and mindfulness from a decolonized eco-conscious viewpoint. This curriculum is structured in a way that allows our teaching to be guided by children’s interests, hands-on exploration, and meaningful, real-world experiences.
We also reference the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) to ensure students are developing age-appropriate academic skills.
We view these standards as one piece of a much larger, more holistic approach to learning.
-
We view behavior as communication.
Rather than using punishments or rewards, we focus on understanding what a child is expressing and supporting them in developing the skills they need.
Our approach includes:
Co-regulation and emotional support
Clear, respectful boundaries
Collaborative problem-solving
Teaching communication and conflict resolution skills
We prioritize connection over control and believe children learn best when they feel safe, understood, and respected.
-
Conflict is a natural part of learning. Teachers guide children through resolving conflicts by helping them express their feelings, listen to others, and work toward solutions together.
-
We provide personalized narrative reports at least twice per year, highlighting each child’s strengths, growth, and social-emotional development.
Families are invited to attend a narrative conference with their child’s teacher to discuss the report, ask questions, and collaborate on next steps.
We value ongoing communication and partnership with families throughout the year.
-
Yes; time in nature is an essential part of our program!
Through our Forest School approach, children regularly explore, play, and learn outdoors. This supports physical development, creativity, problem-solving, and a meaningful connection to the natural world.
